Detroit Techno

'Detroit has a sound of its own: the rattle of conveyor belts and robots assembling cars, the angry shouting of mobs running riot and the repetitive and gloomy beats of Detroit techno reflecting it'. Viewed through a cultural and musical perspective, this work takes an extensive look at the history of techno music in Detroit: Its roots, its rise during the 1980's, its unique relation to the post-industrial environment of the city, the diverse transitions it encountered, and its eventual conformation to the globalized techno of today.
