The Old Testament in Scots

The descriptive power of the Scots tongue shines through with understated grandeur in this lavishly illustrated translation of Wisdom by Gavin Falconer and Ross G. Arthur, which for the first time brings together in the language some of the most iconic of Old Testament stories. Distilling modern Bible scholarship into forceful and affecting Scots, it is a work of aesthetic as well as religious interest, reproducing in their entirety the stunning nineteenth-century etchings of master French illustrator Gustave Doré. To read, to quote, to dip into, to wonder at, it is an unalloyed joy.
