A Diagnostic Classification of the Emotions

An unprecedented innovation in terms of research into the emotions, each of the eight major categories of ethical/emotional terms is coded within a master three-digit coding system, a comprehensive format encompassing 1,040 individual terms. This master system schematically encompasses each of the major listings of virtues, values, and vices specified within the Western ethical tradition. Far from remaining a purely academic exercise, this general system addresses many issues of critical import to human society: including criminality, hypercriminality, and mental illness. Perhaps the greatest potential for this master coding system resides in its all-inclusive nature, accounting for virtually every major category of affective language existent within the literature.
