The true, raw, and poetic story of three generations of Mdre Bahri's in a torn country. Grandfather Gebre, together with his council of elders, fights for the autonomy of Eritrea. But the country is annexed by Ethiopia, against international agreements. An endless struggle for freedom begins. The family is torn apart. Daughters join the resistance movement; son Amanuel is forced to fight for the enemy. After independence, fear returns in silence. In this world, grandson Iseyas Amanuel grows up. When he dares to speak out, he ends up in the merciless prison system. But he does not give up. He speaks with his feet and flees-across the high mountains, through the desert, over the sea-hoping to find his voice and his dignity again in Europe.
