The Science of Character

Long out of print and impossible to find, The Science of Character was for many years Ludwig Klages' only book translated into English. A tour de force of Nietzschean and vitalist psychology, Klages goes beyond Nietzsche's scattershot aphorisms and attempts to create a system for the understanding of different psychological or characterological types of human beings. The book offers illuminating discussions of Klages' doctrine of Images, and of the opposition between Spirit and Soul, both cornerstones of his biocentric philosophy which he would go on to develop further in later works.
